2020 was a hard year for all of us. After being cooped inside for so long, we know how exciting it is to imagine all the fun places and activities we might get to do this summer. However, after nearly a full year of Netflix binges and movie nights, we know that many people are hoping to find something to do that might be a little more engaging and educational than an in-person shopping trip or movie night. As a charming center for rising professionals and young families, Malvern is full of opportunities to get out of the house and teach the kids a thing or two.
1. Wharton Esherick Museum
As described on their website: “The Wharton Esherick Museum is the home and studio of famed American artist Wharton Esherick, located atop Valley Forge Mountain in Chester County, Pennsylvania. It is our mission to preserve, maintain, and exhibit the artistic creations of the late Wharton Esherick so that the general public may gain enjoyment, education, and inspiration from Esherick’s life work. We seek to act dynamically; connecting contemporary audiences to Esherick’s legacy and brilliant creations through diverse public programs and community partnerships.” While currently closed for covid-19 safety concerns, the museum provides numerous programs and events to promote creativity and learning as well as exhibitions of numerous examples of historic life and art.
2. Paoli Battlefield Historical Park
Pennsylvania is just full of beautiful and interesting historical sites, including the Paoli Battlefield Historical Park. Along a 3/4 mile trail guests are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the landscape and history as posted plates and panels offer the opportunity to experience the land and history at one’s own pace. Additional trails also offer the opportunity for guests to jog, hike, or picnic in the lush greenery of the pristine 40 acre park.
3. American Helicopter Museum
Offering programs for children, adults, and students of all ages — the American Helicopter Museum is a must-visit for the curious and adventurous. The American Helicopter Museum is dedicated to the preservation of aircraft history and to raise public awareness of the role that helicopter development has played in the Delaware Valley and greater America throughout history. Since 1996 the American Helicopter Museum has served this goal by offering dozens of year long tours and events, as well as specialized events and opportunities for students.
